Well, here’s the general idea – Greasing the O-ring of your housing or light does not actually help the seal! What it does is keep the O-ring moist and clean and therefore prevent cracks or grains of sand from hurting the seal. As such , a housing should only be very lightly grease before a series of dives ( but should be checked for dirt on every sealing).
It should be greased heavily after a batch of dives and before putting into storage for a long while.
The worst thing you can do for your gear is put it back in storage after a dive trip without cleaning it throughly and greasing every O-ring!
