Ikelite Underwater Housing for Canon 80D Released

Ikelite’s new opaque housings are starting to roll out. Leading the way for the new generation of DSLR’s is the new Canon 80D underwater housing!

Canon has finally released a successor for the popular mid-range 70D, and equipped it with a few significant upgrades such as:

Based on the success of the 70D underwater, we expect the 80D to be just as succesful, with the Ikelite housing providing the best value choice for the avid UW photographer.

Thanks to recent design changes, Ikelite have managed to lower the price tag on this housing by US$200, compared to the $1800 MSRP on previous mid-level DSLR models. Ikelite has also decided to ship these with a single left hand grip only, as opposed to a dual one which was built-in DSLR housings up until now. This is great news for frequent travelers, making it easier to fit in your luggage and less bulky underwater for those single light shooters out there. An optional right handle can easily be added to provide for an additional light.

Another new addition is a newly designed ultra sensitive shutter release lever which allows easier control over the half-press and features a more ergonomic shape.

More great news – Ikelite has made it easier to work with your existing gear, by switching their threads to standard tripod 1/4-20! Two of these are located at the bottom of the housing to attach to any standard tray. However, those of you who are familiar with Ikelite’s excellent grips and easy quick-release mechanism will probably still stick to those.

Another 1/4-20 thread is located on the top of the housing, allowing you to attach a focus light, action camera or any other accessory you might want to use.

Remember, ports are sold separate. You will need at least one port to operate this housing (otherwise you will have a big hole in front of your camera!).
