Many people shoot wth both a strobe and video lights, thats a pretty common setup nowadays. Generally speaking, it is not a problem to leave your video light on, in fact it can create more light and if positioned correctly can serve as a fill light.
Where can it be a problem?
If your video light has a narrow beam angle it can create a light ball in the middle of the frame. If it is not diffused, it can create reflections. If your video light is a different color temperature than the strobe that can also interfere. Its probably best to do a lot of trial and error and find the perfect positioning and power level on both. Practice can also be done at home or in the pool, you don’t have to wait for that once in a lifetime dive in the Maldives.
There are some video lights that have an auto flash off feature and can turn off when the strobe fires. It’s certainly not a must feature but it does give you the option of either having the light in your shot or not.
