New Wet Lenses Released by Fantasea – AOI
Fantasea and AOI’s cooperation continues to product excellent products for us divers to enjoy! The recent lenses released are the UWL-400F and UWL-09PRO wide angle wet lenses!
UWL-09PRO
This high end lens is the best one yet, surpassing the performance of the popular UWL-09F, featuring high optical performance – 6 multi-layered precision optic elements (organized in 6 groups)
Highlights:
- Super wide FOV (field of view) – 130 degrees underwater.
- Minimum focus distance – Zero! Get as close as you like for CFWA (close focus wide angle) shots.
- AF (anti reflective) coating on the lens to avoid lens flare from the sun and improve overall contrast and sharpness when shooting against a natural or artificial light source.
- Made of durable Aluminum alloy with black hard coating, designed for extreme conditions (depth, temperature, salinity, etc.)
- Rotating wings to shade from the sun.
- Universal compatibility – works with any 67mm thread!

UWL-400F
The UWL-400F is an excellent yet affordable wide angle solution, including a lens element and dome all in one unit!
Highlights:
- Designed for 24mm lenses.
- Features 52mm thread (67-52mm step down ring included!)
- Small and lightweight – only 591 g / 20.8 oz (underwater: 200 g / 7.1 oz)
- Minimum focus distance – Zero! Get as close as you like for CFWA (close focus wide angle) shots.
- No vignetting with the Sony RX100! No zooming required.
- Full zoom through lens! Zoom in without removing the lens.
What I love about it:
- Works perfectly with my favorite compact camera – the RX100 V.
- Small, light and travel friendly! Not very common with wide angle lenses.
- Great for CFWA – zero minimum focus distance.
- Excellent padded carrying case.
- Compatible with both 52mm and 67mm threads.

What exactly is the difference between the UWL-09PRO and the UWL-09F other than the 6 elements as apposed to 5?
The biggest difference is the dome. The UWL-09Pro has an Optical Grade Glass Dome Lens with Inner Surface Multi-layers AR Coating. The UWL-09F has an acrylic dome.
The result is better optical quality, sharpness and contrast in the UWL-09Pro, as well as better handling of reflections from the sun.
Hye Ran, do you confirm that the UWL-400F is appropriate for the “big” 1 inch sensor of the Sony RX100 series ?
Yes!
It actually works really well. I’ve used it on the RX100 V and was surprised how great the results were!
The photos taken in this post were actually taken with the RX100 V. There was no vignetting which was very surprising in such a small lens.
I haven’t tested it out with the new RX100 VI and VII which have a different lens, so that might cause some vignetting with certain housings. I believe with the Fantasea housing it will be ok since the FRX100 VI has a short port that limits the zoom but works better with wide angle lenses.
