Sony announces Cybershot DSC-RX100 1 Inch Sensor Compact
Quote from the official Sony Press Release:
“SAN DIEGO, May 16, 2012 – Traveling
light no longer means compromising on picture quality with the Cyber-shot® DSC-RX100 camera, Sony’s new flagship compact camera.
Striking the ultimate balance of form and function, the stylish, aluminum-built RX100 camera inherits many advanced imaging features from Sony’s α range of A-mount and E-mount cameras, delivering beautiful still images, crisp full HD videos and a level of manual control and creativity unmatched by any other camera of its size.”
This camera can be described as a combination between the Canon S100 and Canon G1X , featuring a sensor almost as large as the Micro 4/3rds on the G1X with a compact body and similar controls like the S100. For underwater use , this camera has one exceptional feature which is a large sensor on a tiny body , other than that , the F/1.8 lens is not a huge advantage and the maximum aperture of f/5.9 is an actual limitation. This camera also lacks the wider angle lens as the S95 and S100 have ( 24mm ) , it has the industries standard 28mm.
But , the image quality is expected to be amazing and with a small compact body and full manual controls , this camera may indeed become popular and serve as a good alternative to the Canon S100.
