Canon Introduces: Rebel SL2 and EOS 6D Mark II

Canon just announced the release of two exciting new DSLR cameras – the Canon EOS Rebel SL2 Mini DSLR and the high end full frame Canon EOS 6D Mark II. Both of these are much anticipated models, released 4-5 years after their predecessors. We expect these two cameras to hit the market later in July, with underwater housings quick to follow!

Canon EOS Rebel SL2 / 200D

The EOS Rebel SL1 (aka 100D) has been a huge success among underwater photographers, offering a the same quality of a DSLR APS-C sensor and high quality lenses, in the smallest package possible. Small enough to fit in a mirrorless size housing!

The new model – SL2 / 200D, comes with an upgraded sensor, significantly improving the already great low light capabilities and dynamic range. It also comes with 1080p full HD video at 60fps, with will perform much better than the SL1’s now that focusing technology on DSLR video has improved drastically.

Canon’s graphic Guided UI has been included here as well, offering the most easy user interface to help you achieve what you want in your photos and videos. Don’t worry, the standard Canon UI is still available and can be activated as well.

A few highlights include:

  • 24.2 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) Sensor.
  • Fast & Accurate Dual Pixel CMOS AF with Phase-detection.
  • Vari-angle Touch Screen, 3.0-inch LCD.
  • Built-in Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth Technology.
  • Full HD 60p & External Microphone Input.
  • DIGIC 7 Image Processor, ISO 100–25600.
  • Optical Viewfinder with a 9-point AF System.
  • Feature Assistant.
  • Small & Lightweight Body.

Canon EOS 6D Mark II For Underwater

The EOS 6D, released back in 2012, has been a leading camera among professional and enthusiast photographers alike, offering a more affordable full frame alternative to the 5D series.

Lately, Canon shooters looking for an entry level full frame have been settling for a used 5D Mark III or the older 6D as a sub $2000 option.

Enter the 6D Mark II! This new release by Canon offers a full frame DSLR for only US$1999 (MSRP), with all recent technological upgrades including a 26.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor and DIGIC 7 Image Processor, as well as Dual Pixel CMOS AF with 45 all cross-type AF points.

Highlights of the 6D Mark II include:

  • 26.2 Megapixel Full-frame CMOS Sensor.
  • Optical Viewfinder with a 45-point All Cross-type AF System.
  • Dual Pixel CMOS AF with Phase-detection & Full HD 60p.

No doubt this camera will be supported by all major underwater housing manufacturers such as Ikelite, Nauticam, Aquatica, Sea & Sea and Nimar.
