Featured Underwater Photographer – Dom Buyers

One of the best ways to learn photography is to see other photographers’ work. Mozaik looks for some of the best underwater photographers in the world, and showcase their work, along with the gear they use, to help other aspiring photographers improve, learn new skills and get inspired.

About Dom

I’m Dom, a keen dive instructor and underwater photographer from New Zealand. I started my photography journey early 2020 with nothing but a Gopro and a float handle, slowly improving my results with home built trays and video light attachments. Flash forward to the beginning of 2021, and I invested in my first underwater setup, with a Canon G16 and a low budget strobe.

I got a lot of use out of this kit, up until the housing leaked and the camera was flooded. With a complete captivation around underwater photography by this point, I bit the bullet and invested into my setup that I am still using to this day, a Canon 5d Mark 3 with an Ikelite housing and strobes (I have a good friend to thank for an excellent price on this). Looking forward to producing more shots with this setup all around New Zealand, and beyond!
