Featured Underwater Photographer – Martin Nobs

My name is Martin Nobs and I learned to dive when I was 30 years old. That was in 2014 and I liked it so much that I decided to leave Switzerland in 2016 and moved to Spain to start my instructor training. There I also met my teacher, mentor and great underwater photographer Maria Pichlmaier. I started with a small Nikon Coolpix compact camera, but soon it was clear that something bigger was needed. I love the small things, so I bought the right gear and specialized in macro photography, all kinds of nudibranchs, shrimps and the particularly small and easily overseen inhabitants of the sea get my special attention. It certainly takes some patience and practice to achieve good results in the macro environment, but it gives all the more joy when an animal then poses perfectly and a great picture is created. When you travel around the world as a diving instructor, you can of course not constantly dive with the camera, we work where others go on vacation. Always happy when teaching underwater photography courses. Therefore for me a dive with the camera is a bit like a short underwater vacation; going slow, looking for cool subjects and just taking pictures. Afterwards the batteries are recharged and I am already excited for the little treasures I have on the sd card. The ocean never stops impressing and surprising me and underwater photography has become a truly a wonderful passion.
