Strobe or LED light for macro?

What’s better for macro shots? An external strobe or a video light such as the Sola 1200?

Hi Helen,

Generally, when shooting stills, a strobe is always recommended.
This is because a strobe is more than 10 times more powerful than your average video light, so it’s easier to work with and freezes the subjects perfectly, while also separating it from the background.
You can also control it better with multiple power outputs for every situation.
That being said, LED lights, AKA video lights, can be used for shooting stills, as long as the subject is close and fairly still.
