Featured Underwater Photographer – Rohan Cumberbatch

I live on the small island in the Caribbean called Barbados.  While studying Ecology at University, a group of friends decided we would all get scuba certified, and I instantly fell in love with it. Photography always had a special place in my heart. From a young age, I would always take up one of my dad’s cameras and take photos of animals, landscapes, or motorsports. One day after class while meeting with one of my professors, I saw an incredible photo of a turtle as his wallpaper on his laptop and I enquired about it. He then informed me that he was actually a diver and captured that photo while out on a dive. My professor was the one who gave me my first underwater camera and then my journey began as an underwater photographer. I took this camera with me every five and took thousands of photos, often experimenting with different settings every time. After dives I would return home and read any articles, books or watch videos related to underwater photography. I would often review my photos after dives in order to improve on my photography skills and highlight any areas which needed improvement. Even after hundreds of dives I still get the same feeling of excitement today as I got on my first dive.
