Featured Underwater Photographer – Hakan Başar

One of the best ways to learn photography is to see other photographers’ work. Mozaik looks for some of the best underwater photographers in the world, and showcases their work, along with the gear they use, to help other aspiring photographers improve, learn new skills and get inspired.

This week we will feature the talented Hakan Başar!

About Hakan

I was born in Germany, I currently live and work in Turkey. I started my first underwater photography work in 2009 with the Nikon D90. Between 2012-2021, I used Nauticam housing with the Nikon D800 camera and organized many photography workshops during this time.

In 2017-2020 and 2021, I became the Turkey Water Photograph Champion. In the CMAS UW world championship held in Tenerife in 2019, I won the 3rd place in the world representing the Turkish national team, and in 2021 I won the 3rd place in the world in the Creative category in Madeira/Portugal.

I actively give SSI underwater photography training and development courses in my Diving School . Finally, I do creative photography works with Picture Profiles that I have created myself. I mainly work with Painting, Panning, Double Exposure and Back lighting techniques and I practice a lot to improve my technique. My advice to our photographer friends who want to improve on this subject is to practice and read a lot of photography whenever possible.
