One of the best ways to learn photography is to see other photographers’ work. Mozaik looks for some of the best underwater photographers in the world, and showcases their work, along with the gear they use, to help other aspiring photographers improve, learn new skills and get inspired.

This week we will feature the talented Pedro Valencia!

About Pedro

I worked as a digital designer and motion graphics artists for some years before becoming a scuba instructor. I started teaching how to dive in Cozumel in 2016 and  for the past year and a half I’ve been shooting blackwater dives and I’m absolutely obsessed with the extravagant marine life we see there. I focus mainly on video but occasionally I’ll shoot some photos too.

Pedro’s Work

The top view of a flying fish, they have the most beautiful pattern. Cozumel.

This is a Gibberfish, a very rare deep sea fish that can only be seen in the shallows as babys.

Jack inside a jellyfish, This seems to be a very common behavior for jacks to find shelter inside salps or jellyfish.

This is a tube anemone drifting in the dark before it settles in the reef.

This is a Veliger, or a planktonic larva of a sea snail.

Squid have an amazing color pattern and they can change it very fast.

A File fish at the surface, I loved the reflection and the two bubbles on it.
