The Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III
When Olympus released the E-M1 Mark II in the beginning of 2017, it was a groundbreaking product for many photographers looking for a compact yet full-featured professional-level camera.
Featuring extremely fast frame rates up to 60 fps electronic/18 fps mechanical, class-leading image stabilization, and a rugged weather-sealed exterior, the EM1 II was a very successful model that performed well above and below water.
Now, the E-M1 II has been succeeded by the E-M1 III, which offers a few upgrades. The E-M1 III has a new image processor, allowing for features including hand-held high res mode, which allows for an 8-image composite in-camera of 50mp JPG or 80 mp RAW. Also new to the E-M1 III is “Live ND mode”, which allows you to simulate neutral density filters in-camera.
Many aspects of the E-M1 II and E-M1 III are the same, but besides an upgraded image processor and advanced in-camera composite features, the E-M1 III also has improved video specifications including 120 fps video shooting in 1080p compared to 60fps in 1080p on the E-M1 II.
For underwater shooters, the E-M1 III is a great choice for hybrid stills/videographers, especially those already in the Olympus ecosystem and looking for a smaller rig with solid features. The Olympus 8mm 1.8 fisheye is a terrific lens for wide angle work, especially Close Focus Wide Angle, as it features an impressive close focus working distance. Likewise, the Olympus 60mm 2.8 is an excellent choice for macro. Housings are currently available from Nauticam and Ikelite.
