Canon&#8217;s response was not late to follow with the recent release of their own innovative FF mirrorless camera &#8211; the <strong>Canon EOS R.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Canon has created a new lens mount for this new line of cameras, called the RF mount, which is deemed as nothing less than &#8220;revolutionary&#8221; by Canon.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9001\" src=\"https:\/\/www.housingcamera.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/flange-eos-r.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"471\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.housingcamera.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/flange-eos-r.jpg 728w, https:\/\/www.housingcamera.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/flange-eos-r-300x194.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The short distance between the base of the lens and the sensor (AKA Flange distance) is only 20mm, which allows lenses to be simpler and optically superior.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Several RF-Mount lenses have already been announced, including:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-bullets\">\n<ul>\n<li>RF 35mm f\/1.8 IS Macro STM<\/li>\n<li>RF 50mm f\/1.2L USM<\/li>\n<li>RF 24-105mm f\/4L IS USM<\/li>\n<li>RF 28-70mm f\/2L USM<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-9002\" src=\"https:\/\/www.housingcamera.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/adapters-1-1024x301.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.housingcamera.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/adapters-1-1024x301.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.housingcamera.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/adapters-1-300x88.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.housingcamera.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/adapters-1-768x226.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.housingcamera.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/adapters-1.jpg 1062w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>In addition, 3 adapters have been announced:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Standard Adapter to Canon EF mount lenses<\/li>\n<li>Drop-In Filter Adapter (might be useful for underwater?)<\/li>\n<li>Control Ring Mount Adapter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-9003\" src=\"https:\/\/www.housingcamera.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/filter-mount-1024x466.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"291\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.housingcamera.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/filter-mount-1024x466.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.housingcamera.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/filter-mount-300x137.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.housingcamera.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/filter-mount-768x350.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.housingcamera.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/filter-mount.jpg 1100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We expect underwater housings to be announced by the end of the year, once the manufacturers get their hands on this camera and lenses!<\/p>\n<p>As usual, we expect to see underwater housings for the Canon EOS R by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingcamera.com\/nauticam\">Nauticam<\/a>, Ikelite, Aquatica, Sea &amp; Sea, Nimar and perhaps others.<\/p>\n<p>The full frame mirrorless world has become much more interesting, with more players joining the arena (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.43rumors.com\/ft5-panasonic-will-announce-its-first-full-frame-system-camera-on-september-25\/\">rumors say<\/a> Panasonic is joining soon as well&#8230;). For consumers, this is only good news!
