About Bo<\/h3>\n

In 1990 and already 40 years old, I decided to get certified to dive in the cool, nutrient rich waters of Northern California and it changed my life. Instead of backpacking in the Sierras I was navigating through the kelp forests in Monterey. I became a NAUI instructor in 1996 and, with my wife, Jamie, also an avid diver, moved to the Big Island of Hawaii in 2004. I worked as a dive guide to the world famous manta ray night dive until 2012. Now retired, my time is spent on, in, or under the water with camera in hand documenting the beauty of our island. We have traveled the world diving and photographing marine life and continue to be amazed at the unique diversity available in our own back yard.<\/em><\/p>\n

Being somewhat fluent with film cameras, I slowly transitioned to digital around 2009 and found it to be a very different language, at times frustrating and other times fascinating. I now feel comfortable with the medium and my goal is to continue to expand my knowledge and experience, and to share my world as I see it. My favorite images show interactions among marine life or between marine life and humans. Although the small critters require SCUBA gear and strobes, an increasing number of my images are captured while free-diving with large animals using ambient light.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a9 Bo Pardau | We were free-diving 3 miles offshore in 7000 ft of water looking for the Oceanic Whitetip Sharks that accompany the Pilot Whales. Above us a fishing boat just brought in a tuna and killed it before bringing it on board. You can see the blood cloud in the water upper left. That really got the shark’s attention….ours, too.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n

Bo’s Gear<\/h3>\n

Bo currently uses a\u00a0Canon T2i in an Ikelite housing with 2 Ikelite DS 125 strobes.<\/p>\n

For macro shots he uses the Canon 50mm macro and for wide angle – the Tokina 10-17mm fisheye.<\/p>\n
