Moonlight Manta Dance / Michael Maes
Underwater cinematographer, Michael Maes, has created this breathtaking video of two Mantas dancing in the moonlight.
“Late night, after all the operators left the site at the Sheraton in Kona, bringing their customers to the world famous “Kona Manta night dive” site, we went in the water with those magical creatures on our own.
We attracted plankton, the favorite diet of the reef manta (Manta alfredi), towards our boat, the Kona Aggressor II.
The plankton, which is attracted towards (moon)light, on its turn attracts the mantas.
This spectacle gave us opportunity to have magical moments with these graceful giants.
I shot this in 4K, ambient, to preserve the natural beauty of this underwater ballet.”
This video is enough to make you fall in love with these amazing creatures….
