DEMA Highlights – Chapter 4
The new Midland action camera is now being released into the dive market. Their package housing is only depth rated 100 feet. Recsea manufactured a housing that is depth rated 200 meters (660 feet) and is great for deep sea and technical divers. This housing will retail for around 500$ and comes with a Red filter inside the package.
Recsea announced an impressive line of video housings featuring even an electronic controlled housing (via handle buttons) for the 2011 Sony models such as the HDR-CX700. These housings are the smallest video housing we have seen so far and also feature a mirror for using the internal LCD monitor. Pricing is around 2500-3500$ depending on the model and if a monitor is included or not.
Nauticam is showing off their ready prototype for the new Sony NEX-5N. The housing looks very similiar to the NEX-5 and will retail for about the same price.
Magrove had quite a nice booth at the show displaying their universal housing for Sony Cameras / Canon Cameras and Panasonic Cameras. They are saying they are very close to solving the Sony 2011 model problem. Their LCD’s are large and clear and camcorder is mounted on a universal tray on the cap allowing easy installation and removal.
Keldan are introducing a new 4000 Lumen video light to compete with the Light and Motion SOLA. This light is more “down to earth” at a suggested retail price of around 1499$. It compact and looks nice and elegant. The angle of view will not be as large as the Dome glass lights by Keldan but will still be at least 80 deg which is sufficient for video and a diffuser for a larger angle is under development.
Olympus have released their new housing for the E-PL3, they have added a front LED light ring which most say is not bright enough and makes the housing expensive for no good reason. In the picture you can see the housing with a Zen dome port which in any case blocks the LED lights.
The Fix S100 housing is displayed at the show. This camera will be a very good seller and this housing is the first to be introduced for the camera. Ikelite should follow soon with their housing which should also become a very popular setup.
Nauticam displayed their new line of arms and ball and joint connectors. They have some new developments such as a clamp with ball connector for mounting a video or focus light, lens holder and other adapters. Overall the collection looks impressive and prices are decent , very similar to Ultralight.
