Renowned Artist Olek Takes Crocheting Underwater for Her Latest Project in Mexico

NYC based polish artist known as Olek (real name Agata Oleksiak), has decided to create her current project in Isla Mujeres, just off the coast of Cancun, Mexico.

As a statement about the declining global shark population, Olek has created a series of complex yarn installations as part of the MUSA underwater museum, covering two of the sculptures completely with colorful yarn. The materials she used are safe to use and bio-degradable, although there has been concern by MUSA that he installation has resulted in damage to marine life integrated in the sculptures.

The yarn installations were not limited only to static sculptures, but were also applied to divers assisting Olek in her project, resulting in some spectacular photos which can be seen below:
