Since the the S-2000 and D-200 have the same guide number, many people are wondering why would one spend more money on the D-200 which at the time of writing this costs $130 more.
The D-200 has a few advantages and one of them also indirectly involves its power.
It comes with a dome front that allows a 110 degree beam. This means you get a Guide number 20 in a 110 degree beam whereas with the S-2000 you get that same guide number with an 80 degree beam. If you include a diffused on the S-2000 , you get a 100 degree beam but reduce the power significantly.
The D-200 also has a shade that blocks the eyesight between the strobe and the lens and thus reduces backscatter. It also has a built in focus light which is great as an aiming light and as a backup light as well.
The big advantage of the S-2000 is its size, being the smallest strobe in the market but if that is not that big a deal for you, the above advantages are surely worth the extra $130.
