Ikelite Introduces Significant Upgrades On Nikon D500 Housing

Ikelite have a long history of producing high quality, affordable underwater housings, supporting a very wide array of cameras, including compacts, mirrorless and DSLR. Recently we noticed stage one of their make-over, as they introduced the new white ABS-PC blend on their new housings. The Nikon D500 housing brings to light stage two of the make-over, with the brand new DL (Dry Lock) Port Mount, as well as integrated vacuum circuitry and a few more cool upgrades.

The new Dry Lock port mount is based on Ikelite’s MIL port system, but has been redesigned and refined for DSLR’s.

Some of its key features include:

• A unique exterior o-ring which prevents water from dripping onto your camera when the port is removed;
• Solid, sure-stop press fit with no threading, turning, or twisting of the ports or extensions;
• Built for reliability in remote locations with standard locking thumbscrews and no complex moving parts;
• Accommodates large diameter lenses with ease;
• A new compact 8″ dome port provides the optical quality of a large dome with the size of a much smaller dome—perfect for close-focus wide angle work;
• Plus the new featherweight full 8″ dome is less than half the weight of its predecessor and several pounds lighter than the glass alternatives with nearly identical optical quality!

The older Four Lock system will still be available for those who prefer to stick to their legacy ports, but within a year or two we expect most divers to switch to the new and upgraded port system, with its many advantages.

Ikelite have also developed a lighter, slimmed down acrylic back, rated to 50ft / 15m, designed for snorkeling, freediving, shallow dives, surfing and pool shots, which is 1/2 pound lighter and easier to pack and travel with. The two backs are interchangeable so you can upgrade your surf housing to a deep dive housing as you progress, or get both back for different shooting situations.
