Featured Underwater Photographer – Mariano Rodríguez
One of the best ways to learn photography is to see other photographers’ work. Mozaik looks for some of the best underwater photographers in the world, and showcase their work, along with the gear they use, to help other aspiring photographers improve, learn new skills and get inspired.
This week we will feature the talented Mariano Rodríguez!
About Mariano
I was born in Comodoro Rivadavia, a beautiful coastal city in the Argentine Patagonia, where from a very young age I had a relationship with the sea. I played in the tide pools and dreamt of being a diver-explorer when I grow up one day.
When I started diving at the age of 16, on the beaches near my city, I knew right away that I wanted to take photos and videos to share with my family and friends. Cousteau and his documentaries on television were a great influence.
I like to take images through freediving or with autonomous diving equipment, I enjoy both disciplines equally. Today, at 47 years old, my passion and main motivation is to do my job in an increasingly professional way, to take photos and videos that can motivate others to start diving, and to let them know the wonders that hides under the water mirrors, regardless of whether it is fresh or saltwater.
Working for documentaries and television series, participating in projects that mix science and art, carrying out underwater cleaning days or giving talks to school children, is so much fun that one would like to do it all the time. @argentinasubmarina, my project that only takes 2 years, is about this, transmit, share, educate, raise awareness.
Mariano’s Gear
My current gear is a Sony Alpha 7S2 camera in a Nauticam Housing with 16-35 wide angle and 90mm macro lenses, an Olympus TG6 compact in an Olympus Housing, and a Gopro Hero7 Black.
For photo and video I use Divepro and Subacqua video lights.
