How Sharks Attack! Cool Infographic

We Love Sharks

The great thing about being part of the underwater photography community, is that we know the truth. Sharks are not lethal, ferocious monsters that constantly search for human flesh.

We all love the “OMG” cries and “Weren’t you scared??” inquiries from our friends and family when we return from a successful shark dive with cool close-up shots of these “ferocious” creatures.

But unfortunately, just like other encounters of Man with Nature, sometimes people might get attacked.

Looking at the numbers helps us put things in proportions. Knowing that Man is responsible for killing a staggering number of 100 million sharks a year, gives us a different perspective on things.

This infographic shows us some interesting statistics regarding shark attacks and fatalities:

So agree…certainly the worlds most misunderstood animal…Stephen Spielberg did the Shark a great injustice with the movie Jaws…whilst not intentional he did cast the shark as the man eating villain to a public which at the time basically had no knowledge of the animal except that they had triangular dorsal fins and teeth and was indirectly responsible for the wholsale slaughter of sharks which the movie sparked……this misinformation persists in the minds of the general public to this day although it is slowly being replaced by a greater understanding of these magnificent creatures…
