Nauticam CMC-1 Test Shots
The Nauticam CMC-1, Compact Macro Converter 1, is one of the most promising accessories for underwater photographers using compact cameras this year. It claims to be the best macro wet lens available, producing the most magnification while maintaining the best quality, and optimized for compact cameras on the market today.
We wanted to share with you some preliminary results taken with the Panasonic LX100, courtesy of Randal Peterson who is taking it on a spin in Papua New Guinea these days.
Below you can find the CMC compared to the most popular lens at the time – the Subsee +10 Lens by Reefnet.
The setup used here was the Nauticam LX100 housing with the standard rectangular port and the 25107 flip holder.
Some of the results received:
VIGNETTE
Subsee 10 lost vignette at 72 mm zoom. Consequently all measurements below are at 75 mm zoom.
CMC-1 lost vignette at 54 mm zoom. Below are two different picture widths for this lens at closest and furthest focus, corresponding to 54 and 75 mm zoom.
FOCAL DISTANCE (min to max) & RANGE
Subsee 10: 7.1 to 12.2 cm (= range of 5.1 cm)
CMC-1: 4.5 to 7.2 cm (= range of 2.7 cm)
PICTURE WIDTH
Subsee 10: 4.6 cm (@75mm zoom)
CMC-1: 4.2cm @ 54mm zoom, 3.3cm @75mm zoom
These are the results we have so far.
You can see that the CMC produces about 30% more magnification than the Subsee +10 with excellent sharpness and details.

We will share more photos and results soon! Stay tuned 🙂

Hi from Germany, I am quite a makro rookie practising with my lx 7 and taking into consideration to buy the cmc 1. I cannot find any 24mm shot with that lens anywhere to judge the magnification. Can you help me ? Kind regards. Udo
