The AFO function is designed so the the focus light won’t interfere with the actual photo.
When a strobe is triggered, the focus light (e.g. Bigblue AL450MAFO) will actually switch off for an instant, then turn back on after a second.
This way your subject is only lit by the strobes, preventing the focus light’s hot-spot in the frame.
