When carrying your underwater housing on a plane, the recommendation is to remove the o-ring or leave your housing unlocked.
Why is that?
The reason you don’t fly with the housing closed, is because the housing is not built to handle negative pressure.
Furthermore, due to differences in pressure between your origin and destination, your housing may get stuck shut. And it’s a pain to open it. Trust me I’ve been there…
The best practice would be to simply remove the o-ring, put it in a ziplock bag or even just fold it inside the housing and close the housing as usual.
Without the o-ring, pressure won’t build up in the housing and you’ll be able to open it safely when you arrive to your destination!
Generally, we recommend keeping your housing on you, in your carry-on bag whenever possible, to avoid any mishandling by the cargo crew / TSA which may damage your expensive housing.

If you have a vacuum system on you camera housing, then the pressure shouldn’t be a problem 🙂
